Pitru Paksha 2026 — the sixteen shraddha tithis
26 September to 10 October 2026
Pitru Paksha 2026 runs from Saturday 26 September to Saturday 10 October, closing on Sarva Pitru Amavasya.
Shraddha is performed on the tithi on which the ancestor died, not on a fixed day of the fortnight. The table below gives each tithi and the date it falls on in 2026.
Sources differ on whether Pitru Paksha 'begins' on 26 September or 27 September. 26 September is Purnima Shraddha, which belongs to Bhadrapada Purnima; 27 September is Pratipada Shraddha, the first tithi of the dark fortnight. Both conventions are in common use. If you are performing Purnima Shraddha, the date is 26 September.

Shraddha is performed at midday — the kutup muhurat — rather than in the morning or evening.
Kutup muhurat falls around 11:30 am to 12:30 pm in most of north India.
The window is derived from local noon, so it moves with your longitude. Confirm it for your own city.
- Order at least ten days ahead. The sixteen-day kit ships as numbered day-packets, opened in order.
- Cooked rice, milk, ghee and water are arranged at home; til, kush, jau and the Sangam jal are in the box.
- Tirth kits carry no promotional insert of any kind. That is a packing rule, not an oversight.
Festival dates follow the tithi and are computed for a location. Two panchangs for cities a few hundred kilometres apart can differ by a day. Confirm against a panchang for your own city before you fix anything around it.
