Griha Pravesh Vidhi — the sequence, step by step
Griha pravesh is performed once for a house, and the part people most often get wrong is not the offering — it is the order. Ganesh pujan comes before everything. The milk is boiled at the threshold before the family settles in, not after. The havan closes with purnahuti, not with aarti.
What follows is the sequence as verified by a practising purohit and printed on the card inside our Griha Pravesh Kit. Confirm your muhurat against a panchang calculated for your own city before you fix the date.
In this order
- Enter the new house for the first time at the muhurat, not before — even to carry boxes in.
- The milk must be boiled in a vessel that has not been used before.
- Keep the kalash undisturbed until the puja is complete.
- The havan kund goes in the north-east or east unless your purohit directs otherwise.
This sequence is verified by a practising purohit and checked by a second from a different tradition. Practice still varies by region, sampradaya and family — where yours differs, follow your own tradition. Muhurat and tithi should be confirmed against a panchang calculated for your city. Nothing here promises an outcome.
About this vidhi
Griha pravesh is generally performed in Magha, Phalguna, Vaishakha and Jyeshtha, and avoided during Pitru Paksha and Chaturmas. The exact muhurat depends on the tithi, nakshatra and your own panchang — fix it with your purohit rather than from a generic table.
